The Sydney 2000 Olympic Torch Relay Route
The first Olympic Games of the new millennium will be remembered, at least in part, for the longest torch relay in Olympic history. The games will get off to an auspicious start, as 10,000 torchbearers carry the flame over 27,000 kilometers, passing within an hour's drive of 85 per cent of the Australian population. To Traverse this enormous distance, the Olympic Flame will take to the skies in a Royal Flying Doctor service aircraft, to make its way through the remote Australian outback, and be carried by camel across Cable Beach at Broome. It will ride aboard the Indian Pacific train across the Nullabor Plain and travel in a surf boat at Bondi Beach. In all, the flame will bring the spirit of the Olympic Games to more than 1,000 towns and communities, providing Australians around the country with the opportunity to see this amazing spectacle.
